| Desirable Leadership Attributes |
Below is an extensive list of desirable leadership attributes, including traits, skills, and characteristics, gleaned from the voluminous academic and practitioner Leadership literature. A more scientific compilation may be found in the list of 24 Character Strengths documented in the psychology literature.
The scientific literature uses the word attributes when generally describing a person's collection of personal characteristics (inherent traits, personality characteristics, knowledge, skills, abilities). Strictly speaking, only a subset of one's attributes are traits. The scientific literature proposes that traits (for example, academic intelligence) are inherent or innate, and therefore cannot be altered or developed. In contrast, good presentation or communication skills are abilities which may be improved over time with training and experience.
